Հոգեհանգիստ

Submit a request for a Hokehankisd to be offered for the repose of the souls of your beloved departed at St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Catholic Church of Toronto.

What is a Hokehankisd? Ի՞նչ է Հոգեհանգիստը

The Hokehankisd (Հոգեհանգիստ) — literally meaning “rest of the soul” — is the solemn Requiem service of the Armenian Church, offered for the repose of the souls of the faithful departed. Rooted in the ancient liturgical tradition of the Armenian Catholic Church, the Hokehankisd is a sacred act of love and intercession: the living praying for the dead, united in the hope of the Resurrection.

A Hokehankisd may be requested on significant days of remembrance — the third, seventh, and fortieth day after a passing, on the one-year anniversary, or on any occasion meaningful to the family. The Church also observes special Soul Saturdays (Hogekoch — Հոգեկոչ) four times throughout the liturgical year, during which Requiem services are celebrated communally for all the faithful departed.

“Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.”
— John 12:24
